The Michigan National Deer Association and Michigan State University Extension: Fisheries and Wildlife: 491 Hunting and Conservation Course developed a partnership this year!
Students in MSU’s Hunting and Conservation class took and completed National Deer Association’s Deer Steward 1 Class, which is an online module educating participants on the history of deer management, deer behavior, deer communication, herd management, herd health, and hunter management, as supplemental curriculum to their course.
Students also earned college CREDIT for participating in a mentored hunt with the Michigan National Deer Association. MI NDA leaders and volunteers mentored 5 MSU students on their first deer hunt ever! Although no shots were taken and no deer were harvested, the hunt was a great success with all students being able to watch deer do “deer things,” while further learning more about deer and deer management in the blind with experienced mentors!
